SHEDDING LIGHT ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE…

Three days before his jury trial was set to begin in Bibb Superior Court, Dontize Hughes pled guilty to Aggravated Assault and Kidnapping for a violent attack on his wife on June 15, 2020. On that fateful day, when the victim arrived home Hughes broke out the window of her car and began beating her. He then dragged her from the vehicle into the house where he attempted to strangle her and continued to beat her. She was finally able to escape the home, seek help and was taken directly to the hospital where she was found to have multiple injuries over her body. For these crimes Hughes was sentenced to 30 years, with the first 20 to be served in prison.

“Most domestic violence occurs in the home and is not directly seen by others. My Office is committed to opening the doors and putting an end to this insidious and dangerous crime, which has such a detrimental effect on the families of our communities.” DA Howard

The Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office especially thanks the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office for its help in this prosecution and in bringing a measure of justice to the victim and her family.
