Bibb County, GA – April 18, 2023 – In October 2022, the Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFACS) alerted the Bibb County Sherriff’s Office of a possible Child Molestation. The child, who was 10 years old at the time, disclosed that her biological mother was touching her inappropriately.
After a forensic interview at the Crescent House, the child disclosed that on several occasions her mother inserted a finger into her vagina to “check her” out of concern for the child not having started her monthly cycles. The mother had also shaved the child’s private area and attempted to perform oral sex on the child to show her how to “have fun.”
The girl’s mother was interviewed by law enforcement and corroborated facts given by the child in her forensic interview. The defendant also admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana, shaving her daughter, and admitted to visually checking her on several occasions.
Based on the child’s statements and the defendant’s corroborating statements, warrants were taken for Child Molestation and the case was presented to a Grand Jury.
The defendant entered a guilty plea to one count of Child Molestation and received 20 years with the first 10 to be served in confinement with the Department of Corrections. The defendant will be registered as a sex offender, among other conditions. (We are not identifying the defendant to protect the identity of the child victim.)
“Our community has an obligation to do what we can to protect the innocence of our children,” said Anita Howard, Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney. “This child has demonstrated incredible bravery to share her story, when the crime was against the person who should have been her protector. There was no way we were going to let her down.”
