Jarvis Edwards, 33, the man who broke into a Macon family’s home armed with two guns has been sentenced to 20 years, with 10 years to serve in prison followed by 10 years of probation. Edwards plead guilty before jury selection on August 4, 2026, to Burglary in the First Degree and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
On Saturday, July 22, 2023, at approximately 8:00 a.m., a local family’s morning was interrupted when Edwards forced entry through the rear door of their home. He demanded money and drugs. During the ordeal, the family’s then 18 year old daughter courageously escaped the home with one of the defendant’s weapons and called 911 for help.
Responding officers entered the home and found Edwards, a repeat offender with drug addiction issues, asleep on a bed. He was arrested without incident and showed clear signs of being under the influence of drugs. Officers recovered the driver’s license of one of the victims along with jewelry and loose change belonging to the family in Edwards’ pockets.
“No one should ever have to endure what this family experienced in their own home,” said Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney Anita Howard. “This defendant broke into their home armed with guns while under the influence of drugs. Their daughter’s courage in escaping and calling for help is remarkable. We are so grateful no one was physically harmed. This sentence reflects the seriousness of this crime and our office’s continued commitment to holding violent offenders accountable and protecting the families of the Macon Judicial Circuit. Drug addiction is a serious issue in our community, and its consequences can be devastating, both for those who struggle with it and for the innocent families caught in its path. If you or a loved one is battling addiction, help is available, and we urge you to seek it before it leads to tragedy.”
