Bibb County Man Convicted for Murdering his Wife One Month After Marriage

On Thursday, February 27, 37-year-old Idris Oladipo Alaka was convicted of murdering 27-year-old Brittany Wright, his wife of 30 days. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole plus five years for the brutal murder.

After a four-day trial, a Bibb County jury deliberated for just one hour before returning guilty verdicts on all counts, including Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Knife During the Commission of a Felony.

Assistant District Attorney Jeremy Johnson and Senior ADA Kyle Owenby presented evidence at trial showing that on August 22, 2022, Alaka stabbed Wright 26 times with a kitchen knife at their residence on Courtland Avenue in Bibb County. Wright’s baby was present in the bedroom during the attack.

“This was a heinous act of domestic violence that took the life of a young mother and traumatized others,” said Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney Anita Howard. “One behalf of our team, I want to thank the witnesses for their cooperation in this case. Witness testimony is essential in our ability to hold people accountable for breaking the law. The swift verdict delivered by the jury sends a clear message that such brutal violence will not be tolerated in our community.”

Two witnesses who were renting another bedroom in the same residence testified that they heard disturbances and observed Alaka attacking Wright. One of the witnesses was able to remove the baby from the dangerous situation before seeking help.

A law enforcement officer was alerted when the witnesses encountered him while he was down the street responding to an unrelated call. Upon entering the residence, the officer found Wright deceased and Alaka covered in blood. Officers also located the murder weapon, which Alaka had attempted to hide across the hallway.

Although Alaka claimed that intruders had broken into the home and attacked his wife, forensic evidence contradicted this defense. DNA analysis revealed that only the victim’s and defendant’s blood was on the knife, and there was no evidence of any intruders in the home.

Prosecutors appreciate the investigation conducted by the Bibb County Sheriffs Office.
