Results & Accomplishments

Since taking office on January 1, 2021, public safety has been Anita’s top priority. She believes that an educated and engaged community is the key to a safer community. Anita has launched multiple  initiatives and community partnerships. These endeavors include her Campaign Against Co-sleeping to aid in preventing infant deaths, partnerships with Compass Cares for Know Your Status Day, and Black Voters Matter for the first-ever warrant clinic in Georgia.

Initiatives

An important part of Anita’s long-term public safety strategy is addressing the needs of the young people in our community to prevent them from seeking criminal and risky behavior as an attractive option. One of her most effective programs is R.I.S.E. (Restoring Inspiration by Success in Education) Initiative for juvenile offenders. This program focuses on children who have been traumatized by living with various adverse childhood experiences. In December 2022, this Initiative successfully graduated its first class of 26 students from throughout the Circuit.

She also started her educational DA 101 video series aimed toward demystifying the criminal justice system by bringing accurate and readily understandable information to the public platform. In addition, her implementation of new grand jury processes and scheduling methods for Bibb County has saved taxpayer money and increased public safety by decreasing officer waiting times. This added efficiency to the grand jury system and has allowed more cases to be presented in fewer sessions than ever before.

Honors

Anita’s many honors include first Chairperson of the newly formed Urban District Attorney Coalition of Georgia, the 2021 Presidential Award from the Macon Chapter of the N.A.A.C.P., the 2022 GBI Child Fatality Prevention Award, the 2021 – 2022 Fair Fight District Attorney Program Award; Citizen of the Year from Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and 2022 Law and Justice Award, recognizing legal professionals who have devoted their careers to serving the public and who have been a catalyst for positive change within the community at large.
